Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR

Program Info

Instructor: George Eversmann, RVCC Assistant Athletic Director-Aquatics and Facilities 
This course teaches participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries.

Prerequisites: Minimum age of 15. Swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl and breaststroke only demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidate will place arms under the armpits.

Certification Requirement: Attend all class sessions. Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities. Demonstrate competency in all final rescue scenarios. Pass both Section 1 – CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid and Section 2 – Lifeguarding Skills final written exams with a minimum score of 80 percent. Certificate Issued and Validity Period: Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED: 2 years

  • What to Bring / What to Wear

    • All items should be labeled with camper’s first and last name. Campers should dress appropriately for activities (e.g., comfortable closed-toe shoes, flip-flops, bathing suit, shorts, and t-shirts).
    • Water Bottle
    • Towel & goggles
    • Sweatshirt
    • Extra towels
    • A light snack will be provided, however please supply own snack if your child has food allergies.
  • Drop Off & Pick Up

    PM Only Drop Off: 4:30 PM
    Pick up: 7:30 PM              

    Drop Off
    Beginning at 4:25 PM campers should enter the West Gate and drop off at the pool.
