The GSB Girls’ Basketball team returns to the court ready to defend their Skyland Delaware Division title and to secure recognition as one of the top teams in the state—again.
“We are very excited about the upcoming season,” said Head Coach Mark Gnapp, who returns alongside Assistant Coach Nate Suresh for the duo’s fifth year on the sidelines.
“GSB has a very talented core of younger players combined with experienced upperclassmen. This team will grow throughout the season, and our chemistry will play a big role in our success.”
Last season’s successes included climbing as high as #12 in the NJ.com power rankings and driving home the most team wins since 2015 (18-6).
Senior captain Aniyah Boston, the team’s best defender, and junior captains Brooke Baisley and Jennah Johnson, the leading scorers from last year, plan to build off that momentum and to deliver another winning season.
“Aniyah, Brooke, and Jennah are all natural leaders,” said Coach Gnapp. “As captains, they really set the standards of a student/athlete for the younger players to follow.”
The talented roster includes a deep bench of powerhouse sophomores: Maya Abramson, Tessa Lozner, Gandy Malou-Mamel, Cassidy Moore, and Sidney Quinn, as well as two freshmen newcomers, Ava Fajardo and Stella Lockhart
“We have a strong mix of players who each contribute in different ways,” Coach Gnapp explained. “With this combination, we have high hopes of not only winning our division but earning a county and state sectional championship, too.”
The Knights scrimmage Pope John XXIII Regional High School on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, and face off against Hunterdon Central on Thursday, December 15, 2022, for their season opener.
