This weekend, The GSB Players captivated audiences in three transformative performances of the beloved Broadway classic, She Loves Me, as part of their 2024 Spring Musical.
Premiering in 1963 with a book by Joe Masteroff, music by Jerry Bock, and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, She Loves Me tells the whimsical tale of Amalia and Georg, two perfumery clerks who bicker constantly in the shop, but unknowingly exchange romantic letters as anonymous pen pals. Mistaken identities, witty banter, and heartwarming songs fill the stage, creating a charming world where love blossoms in the most unexpected places. The original production, though not a box office smash, garnered critical acclaim and five Tony Award nominations. She Loves Me returned to Broadway in 1993, where the revival was showed with nine Tony nominations, and again in 2016 at Studio 54.
Longtime Theater Director Paul Canada has artfully brought the sweet melodies and witty banter of She Loves Me to the GSB stage in an incredible three different decades. Canada has ushered the charming musical to the halls of Gill St. Bernard's not once, not twice, but a remarkable three times — four, if you include the 1997 GSB Community Players' production — capturing the hearts of audiences and nurturing a true theatrical tradition.

The 2024 Spring Musical marked the final performance for seniors Carolyn D'Arcangelis and Alexa Woodard. While the curtains close on their GSB theater careers, the impact they have had on the performing arts program is immeasurable.
A special thanks to all of our parent volunteers, Mr. Ross' Technical Theater class, and the GSB Operations Team for their incredible support. From costume design, lighting, sound engineering, set production, hair and makeup design, and much more, the countless hours spent bringing the stage to life is truly appreciated.
