As GSB softball wraps up its regular season this week, it logged one of the team's best seasons in recent history with a formidable record of 16 - 2. Ranked fifth by the Courier News, GSB placed ninth for all Non-Public New Jersey schools and holds the second-seed spot for the State playoffs in the Parochial B South Division.
"We have been led by a strong senior class, both on and off the field," said Head Coach Mike Surella. "Seniors Claire Brouillard, Ellen Besjak, Maddie Ricciardulli, Erin Barno, Rachel McQueen, and Emilia Tobey are all having their best statistical performance of their careers. Juniors Scooter Hulsen and Phobe Kirsh have been strong behind the plate, while Stephanie Vasquez has provided outfield depth. Sophomores Vanessa Mavraj and Jess Cooper have provided power and strong defense, while newcomers Brooke Baisley and Julianna Perri have performed like veterans adding speed and athleticism, even though they are only freshman."
State playoffs begin the week of June 1, with a still-to-be determined opponent at a possible home game.
Good luck, Knights!
