A Historic Season: Gill St. Bernard's Varsity Girls' Volleyball Team Sets New Records

The 2024 season was nothing short of historic for the Gill St. Bernard's Varsity Girls Volleyball team. With an impressive overall record of 18-6, the team set new standards for success, claiming the title of Skyland Conference Valley Division Champions and rewriting the program’s history in several key areas.

For the first time, the Knights surpassed 10 wins in a single season, a monumental achievement that speaks to the team’s growth and determination. They also reached the Semifinal round of the Prep B Tournament for the first time ever, showcasing their ability to rise to the challenge and compete at an elite level.

The team’s success was fueled by a core group of standout players who delivered remarkable performances throughout the season:

  • Junior Ariana Tellalian: As the starting setter, Tellalian orchestrated the team’s offense with precision, recording 283 assists. She also led in service points (139) and aces (46), proving to be an all-around powerhouse.

  • Sophomore Sierra Salko: Dominating the net as a middle blocker, Salko tallied 107 kills and 20 blocks, providing a strong presence in both offense and defense.

  • Sophomore Piper Macak: Macak anchored the back row with 110 digs, playing a vital role in the team’s defensive efforts.

  • Junior Samantha Kalinak: A versatile contributor, Kalinak ranked as the second-leading server with 100 service points and added 62 kills, making a significant impact on both ends of the court.

Reflecting on the season, Head Coach Christina Temnycky emphasized the team’s dedication to growth and their exceptional chemistry.

“Their perseverance and teamwork were incredible,” said Coach Temnycky. “They worked hard all season to hit these milestones. They had a great team mentality, constantly supporting and celebrating one another’s successes.”

The lessons learned this season will undoubtedly fuel next year’s efforts. “A big takeaway for the team was the importance of staying focused on every point and taking things one step at a time,” Coach Temnycky added.

With their strong foundation of teamwork, determination, and leadership, the future is bright for Gill St. Bernard's Volleyball.
