Oscar Peterson Donates Original Oil Painting to GSB Permanent Collection

By Associate Director of Marketing and Communications Kathleen Bartlett

Gill St. Bernard’s School is honored to announce that acclaimed painter Oscar Peterson, our 2024–25 Artist in Residence, has generously donated an original oil painting “Love’s Last Glance” to the school’s permanent collection. The piece, created specifically for GSB, was presented by Peterson to Head of School Dr. Delvin Dinkins and Upper School Fine Arts Instructor Sarah Isusi P ’27 during a special gathering in front of the Chapel on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

Peterson’s connection to GSB began last year through his residency, during which he led a gallery exhibition, artist talk, masterclass, and podcast recording. His vibrant work and thoughtful engagement with our community left a lasting impression on students and faculty alike.

“It is an honor to add a piece from such a distinguished local artist,” said Isusi. “We are truly grateful to Oscar Peterson for sharing his talent and leaving a lasting legacy at our school.”

A hallmark of the Artist in Residence program is the request that each artist contribute one of their works to the school’s permanent collection—a significant gift, particularly for full-time artists who rely on teaching and the sale of their art for support. Peterson’s generous commitment underscores his deep connection to GSB and belief in the importance of art in education.

“Oscar Peterson’s donation is a remarkable addition to our permanent collection,” Dr. Dinkins said. “GSB extends our gratitude to him for his generosity and artistry.”
