GSB welcomes Keith James as its new head golf coach, and his guiding philosophy is in-line with our school's core values of courage, integrity, respect, compassion, and excellence.
"I want my players to understand that their commitment and attitude toward playing golf should be synonymous with the finest aspects of the game, namely integrity, honor, and respect," he said. "I also strongly encourage my players to embrace teamwork in this often-individual sport."
Athletic Director Will Taylor is excited about the golf season ahead with its new leader. "Coach James' experience, background, and personality make him the ideal choice to lead our golf program," he said. "His players and their families already feel good about him. He is the perfect choice to continue our growth and maintain our level of play."
Before joining GSB's athletics program, Coach James served as head coach at Mater Dei Prep in Middletown and an assistant coach at Peddie School in Hightstown. "I believe I have the coaching background needed to fit comfortably at Gill," he added. "My first priority is to become acquainted with my players and their opponents."
As for the upcoming season, Coach James sees the strength of his squad. "We look to be very competitive, and with a senior-led team, we anticipate doing great things at both the county and state levels," he said. Two returning players already committed to play golf in college: Graeme Hollingshead '21, who is ranked 32 in New Jersey by Junior Golf Scoreboard, will attend Gettysburg College, and Sophie Chang '21 will grace the links at Lehigh University.
Other promising talent includes Lance Hollingshead '24, a finalist and third-place finisher at this year's Drive, Chip, and Putt contest held at the Augusta National Golf Course. Team captains are Graeme Hollingshead, Sophie Chang, and Sydney Lapper '21. Returning players include Alek Tobias '21, Anuj Puri '21, and Evan Wortman '23.
