Our undefeated boys' soccer team – ranked first in the state and fourth in the nation – challenges Immaculata High School today in the NJSIAA State Tournament. The home game begins at 2:00 p.m.
Head coach Tony Bednarsky credits his team's commitment and drive during such challenging times. "The boys have worked hard and have been resilient during this trying season," he said. "Their dedication and perseverance have been rewarded with a number one state ranking, as well as a number four national ranking. It has been especially rewarding for my assistant coaches, Timmy DiBisceglie and Todd Ross, who are former GSB players."
Standouts to watch for today include all-time GSB goal scorer, Micaah Garnette '21, and Villanova Commit Jordan Canica '21, both on nj.com's Player of the Year Watchlist.
For today's tournament, Athletic Director Will Taylor looks forward to a challenging match-up and feels confident GSB will prevail. "Immaculata will fight hard, but our boys are talented," he said. "We have a special team, and if they play to their capabilities, I expect them to advance."
This season marks the first time any Gill team has remained undefeated, he added. If GSB wins today, the team will become the region's top seed and play at home on Thursday. Another GSB victory would mean a Saturday game against local rival Pingry on GSB's home turf.
