The school's youngest learners, those in GSB's Early Childhood program (spanning preschool, prekindergarten, and kindergarten), recently concluded a two-week mitten drive. Kindergarteners went above and beyond, sorting and counting the collection: 125 pairs of gloves and mittens, 22 hats, three scarves, and three coats. The donations adorned a mitten tree in the Lower School’s entryway.
To kick-off the mitten drive, students read The Mitten Tree by Candace Christiansen. One of the special lessons from the story is about doing something for someone else, even if no one finds out about it. This wonderful lesson connects beautifully both with "Integrity" (one of our school’s core values), and "Kindness," January's virtue in the Lower School.
The winter items will be donated to Homeless Solutions in Morristown. Great job, Lower School!
