Lower and Middle School Instrumental Show

This year, the 2021 Spring Lower School and Middle School Instrumental performance was presented via video, due to COVID-19 restrictions. Because students could not play instruments together, Elizabeth Carney, LS music and band teacher, worked with musicians in grades four through seven individually.

"This year our instrumentalists worked even harder than usual to practice, improve, and perform their pieces for you," she said. "Playing a wind instrument during a pandemic is extremely difficult. Students had to adjust to instrument-specific PPE; in some cases, their entire instrument was covered in a fabric bag while playing. There were 'playing masks' with a hole for the mouthpiece and plexiglass shields between teacher and student."

Even though Mrs. Carney could not bring her students together to play as a group, she created a video to highlight her students’ talents. And despite the challenges, the music prevailed.

"Our GSB Knights are no strangers to challenges though, and as expected, they overcame each challenge with courage and perseverance," she said. "It has been an honor to watch them achieve their goals this year, and I am proud to be their band teacher. Please enjoy our performances."

Mrs. Carney offered a special thank you to the Middle School teachers for sharing their students and to Mr. DeVico for recording and producing the virtual recital.
