Gill St. Bernard's is feeling the love from nj.com today! Congrats to all! Here are the nj.com post-season accolades:
GSB boys' soccer honored as Team of the Year for 2020
Even with a 14-day quarantine, the team finished the season with a 13-0-1 undefeated record. Nj.com praised the Knights' efforts: "Gill St. Bernard's was led by its tremendous attacking trio of Micaah Garnette, the 2020 Player of the Year, Villanova commit Jordan Canica and midfielder Adam Berrocal. That group combined 40 goals and 31 assists this season as Gill St. Bernard's scored key regular wins over Pingry and Hunterdon Central before its state tournament run included wins over Immaculata, Notre Dame and Pingry again."
Knight Micaah Garnette '21 named Player of the Year
With 21 goals and 14 assists in 14 games, Micaah received this state-wide recognition. As reported in nj.com: "Garnette displayed finishing quality the past two season that would rival any of N.J.'s great strikers of the past. Teams threw detailed and varying man-markings and double-teams at him, but he still managed to produce."
Additional honors for Micaah include Skyland Conference boys' soccer player of the year and for the second time, he is among the boys' soccer First Team All-State selections.
Jordan Canica '21 recognized as boys' soccer Second Team All-State
"Canica was a clinical finisher for one of the best attacking teams in New Jersey this season. The Villanova commit had 14 goals and eight assists for N. 1-ranked Gill St. Bernard's while often battling man-markings and other defensive pressure. Canica is quick but strong on the ball and put together a back-to-back All-State caliber season with the Knights."
Adam Berrocal '21 selected as boys' soccer Third Team All-State
"Berrocal was the ultimate distributor out of the midfield of one of N.J.'s best attacking teams. He had five goals and nine assists for No. 1-ranked Gill St. Bernard’s this season after compiling 23 assists as a junior, but was a sensational box-to-box midfielder in 2020. More often than not, Berrocal was the man responsible for getting the ball to Micaah Garnette and Jordan Canica in space and he helped establish possession and pace for the Knights in the middle third."
