Knights Finish Strong in Spring Track and Field Season

The Gill St. Bernard’s Varsity Track and Field team finished a remarkable spring season filled with hard work, perseverance, and plenty of highlights.

This year, the Knights say goodbye to 10 seniors who made a lasting impact on the team. The season was filled with strong performances at key meets, including the NJSIAA Group Non-Public B Championship, held at Stockton University. Senior Stanley Njekwe led the team by earning four medals — first place in high jump (punching his ticket to the Meet of Champions), a 5th place in the 100-meter dash, a 3rd place in the 200-meter dash, and a 3rd place in the 4x400 relay alongside teammates Oliver Litchfield ’26, Gabe Raphel ’28, and Ethan Craig ’27. Raphel made his 400-meter hurdle debut in 1:17.

The girls’ team was led by senior Catie Klein, who earned 2nd place in shot put and advanced to the Meet of Champions. Freshman Amelia Litchfield competed in the triple jump, long jump, and 100 and 200-meter dashes — narrowly missing the finals in the triple jump. Senior Suzanne Horton set a personal record in the 800-meter race.

The team also competed at the Prep B Championships in Newark. Rohan Norden ’26 cut his 1600-meter time by 13 seconds, finishing with a career-best 5:19.27 for 9th place. Raphel placed 12th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.37. Amelia Litchfield placed 10th in the 100-meter dash and jumped a personal best of 14’6” in the long jump.

As the season came to a close, the Knights finished strong at the Meet of Champions on June 4 at Pennsauken High School. Njekwe and Klein represented GSB in their final high school competition with tremendous effort and sportsmanship. At the track banquet, Njekwe received the “Knight” award, while junior Taahir Jones was honored with the track leadership award.

“The effort that this team put in makes me proud,” said Head Varsity Coach Michael Parker. “We tried and were successful in handing off the baton in a better place than when we started. Good season, all!”

A huge thank you to the parents and family members who supported the team all season — GSB track and field is truly grateful for your loyalty and encouragement—and congratulations to all of our athletes for a wonderful season. The future of GSB track and field is in great hands!
