Gill St. Bernard’s is thrilled to announce the hiring of Joe Locandro as the school’s new Director of Enrollment Management ahead of the 2022-23 academic year.
“I'm elated to join the vibrant and engaged GSB Community, whose warmth and positivity have stood out to me for quite some time,” said Locandro.
“I grew up about 45 minutes south of GSB and have interacted with students, parents, alumni, and faculty in various ways over the years. Gill St. Bernard's is a place of lifelong learners who seek to better the world through good works, and I'm grateful to help welcome the next wave of talented young people into the GSB Community.”
Locandro arrives at GSB from Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where for the past year he served as Dean of Upper School Enrollment and as a member of the Upper School Leadership Team. While creating and executing the school’s admission strategies, Locandro led the evaluation and enrollment of Cranbrook’s day students as well as its international and domestic boarders.
A New Jersey native, Locandro previously served as Associate Director of Admission and Financial Aid for Morristown-Beard School in Morristown, New Jersey, from 2017 to 2021, as well as the school’s Director of Development from 2013 to 2017.
“I am thrilled to welcome Joe and his family to Gill St. Bernard’s,” commented Head of School Sid Rowell. “He is a highly talented and experienced independent school administrator. Further, I am confident that he is the right person to lead our admissions and marketing offices moving forward.”
Locandro brings extensive knowledge on helping families navigate the admission and financial aid processes through interviews, campus tours, fairs, and virtual and in-person events designed to educate prospective families and build positive connections. After graduating Cum Laude from Duke University, Locandro earned his Juris Doctor from Washington University School of Law and later an MBA from the University of Notre Dame.
During his interview process, Locandro was struck by GSB’s unmatched balance of academic rigor and engaging life activities, which he believes is one of the school’s key differentiators.
“Plenty of independent schools speak to balance but, in practice, still rely on the ‘factory model’ of education — a century-old philosophy that rewards the mechanical accumulation and regurgitation of information,” commented Locandro. “At Gill St. Bernard's, students live a full, balanced journey in which they acquire knowledge and develop skills through a challenging, experientially-based academic program while simultaneously experiencing important development through meaningful activities designed to help them lead, serve, and grow.”
“I'm thankful for the opportunity to serve Gill St. Bernard's School, and I look forward to partnering with current students and families — as well as GSB alumni and their families — to continue building a bright future for this exceptional place.”
