Indoor Track & Field Senior Night Hosts Charity Color Run

For this year’s Senior Night, the Winter Track & Field team opted to do something fun—and for others. The final celebration included not only food and good cheer, but a Charity Color Run to raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

“We decided that because we are adolescents and mental health is a critical issue in our community, we want to promote awareness and support for this cause,” said senior Michaela Kroon. “Every dollar we raise brings us closer to a world without suicide.”

The student athletes researched scores of possible charities prior to the event, and ultimately landed on The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention because of how it allocated funds.

“Every season, we choose a different fundraiser to raise money for,” said senior Jacob Goldklang. “This foundation had the lowest costs and allocated the most money to the cause.”

Teammates arrived on the track after class on Wednesday, March 2nd wearing matching white t-shirts, and under a picture-perfect blue sky, they rotated between running laps and throwing colored powder. Soon enough, green, pink, orange, and yellow tinted the landscape, the track—and the athletes.

“This year we wanted to piggyback off of the mental health and eating disorders awareness weeks we’ve had at school,” said Michaela. “And we also wanted a fun way to end our successful season!”

All athletes and parents on the team received this link to donate.
