GSB Students Support Local Communities in Series of Collection Drives

After a record-breaking Turkey Day in November, GSB students are building upon the giving spirit by organizing a series of collection drives to support the local community this holiday season.

LS “Kids CAN Help” Project

Last week, 1st Graders led the full Lower School community in our annual “Kids CAN Help” canned food drive. The project not only gave students the opportunity to build their math and language skills, but helped raise 756 canned food donations for the Chester Mendham Food Pantry! US Hispanic Heritage and Culture Club’s Toy Drive

The Upper School Hispanic Heritage and Culture Club is leading a toy drive collection to support El Centro Hispanoamericano, a non-profit immigration services organization located in Plainfield, NJ. The club is accepting new, unwrapped toys ($10-20 recommended budget) to distribute to children ages 1-12 this holiday season. Students can bring their toys to their advisor’s room for collection.

The Toy Drive Collection ends Tuesday, December 14.

MS Student Government Food Drive

Members of GSB's Middle School Student Council are working hard on the 2nd annual Winter Food Drive. As part of the drive, 5th to 8th graders are encouraging their classmates to bring in specific food items to help support Chester Mendham Food Pantry and MEND New Jersey, a hunger relief network located in Essex County. With the help of faculty advisors Charlotte Hogan and Emily Caspersen, students are honing their leadership skills through public speaking, time management, and self advocacy.

Families are encouraged to bring pasta, rice, spices, canned tuna, and canned chicken as part of the drive. The collection ends Wednesday, December 15.

US Fashion Club’s Coat Drive

Gill’s Upper School Fashion Club is accepting new and gently used coats to donate to Jersey Cares, a non-profit that organizes volunteership opportunities across the state. Each year, GSB asks community members to consider cleaning out their closets to help others stay warm throughout the winter.

Used coats in all sizes are accepted and can be dropped off during Advisory or outside the Dean’s Offices. The Coat Drive collection ends Wednesday, December 15.

US Environmental/Sustainability Club’s Reusable Shopping Bag Drive

The Upper School Environmental/Sustainability Club is hosting a reusable shopping bag drive in support of Table of Hope, a mobile food pantry located in Morris County. Community members can donate clean bags to their advisory by Friday, December 17.

US Global Awareness Club’s Gift Collection

The Upper School Global Awareness Club has organized a gift collection to assist Agape House, a Somerset County-based emergency shelter for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The gifts will be donated to children who are currently living in temporary housing to provide excitement and joy during the holidays.

GSB community members who are interested in participating can view each children’s wish list and sign up for a gift outside of the Deans’ Offices. The Toy Collection ends Friday, December 17.

A special thank you to our entire GSB community for their continued generosity!
