GSB Senior Kate Chen Named National Merit Finalist

GSB Senior Kate Chen Named National Merit Finalist

Gill St. Bernard’s senior Kate Chen was named a Finalist in the 2023 National Merit ® Scholarship Program, an award which honors students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

As a Semifinalist, Kate was one of 16,000 students selected nationwide, representing less than one percent of all U.S. high school seniors.

To be considered for the Finalist round, Kate and a GSB official submitted a detailed scholarship application, in which they provided information about Kate's academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.

Kate was also required to maintain an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT® or ACT® scores that confirmed her earlier performance on the qualifying test.

As a Finalist, Kate will now be in consideration for one of the 7,250 Merit Scholarship® awards worth nearly $28 million in total and the Merit Scholar ® title.

Congratulations, Kate!
