GSB Ice Hockey Is Ready to Roll

Gill St. Bernard’s Ice Hockey team is ready to hit the ice and take on their rivals from the MCSSIHL conference for what promises to be an intriguing 2021-22 season.

The Knights are led by senior captains Logan and Christian Mote. The forward brothers combined for 17 points in 9 games last year, with Christian leading the team with six goals and Logan contributing four. Assistant captain Matt Bloomenthal ’22 adds to the team’s senior leadership as he’s charged with guiding a young defensive line.

“This team welcomes adversity,” commented co-head coach, Chris Wiggins. “What really excites us is how our players’ ability to thrive under pressure.”

Wiggins and co-head coach Greg DaSilva enter their 6th season leading Gill St. Bernard’s ice hockey program, while assistant coach Ian Anderson returns to the coaching staff in his 3rd season.

Senior goalie Alex Steinberg and sophomore forward Michael Scarpati join Bloomenthal and the Motes on a list of returning standouts. The Knights will rely on Steinberg’s veteran presence between the pipes as he attempts to best his .890% save percentage from last year. Scarpati will look to build off his three points during his freshman year campaign.

After finishing 3-4-2 in 2020, Wiggins and DaSilva’s squad hope to build off last season’s momentum to climb the MCSSIHL Haas Division rankings and earn their place in postseason play.

“Our team aspirations for this season are to make the league playoffs and qualify for a state game,” said Wiggins.

The Knights kick off their season on December 11 against High Point Regional High School at Mennen Arena.
