GSB Girls’ Soccer Poised for a Big Year

With their season about to kick off, the GSB Girls’ Soccer program has their eyes set on many goals this year.

The 2022-23 Knights are highlighted by an outstanding nucleus of senior leaders, including Midfielders Grace Crimi and Jadyn Mapura, Defenders Ava DiCesare and Lauren Rossiter, and Goalkeepers Ankora Sant’Angela and Elise Cantu. The team will once again lean on Mapura to create goalscoring opportunities who contributed 8 assists last season.

The team will be led by longtime faculty member Donna Bednarsky, who returns to her role as Head Coach this season, alongside Assistant Coaches Jonna DeFalco and Cassie Golden (Cascini) ’99, who returns to her alma mater alongside her former coaches.

“I am very excited to be coaching Girls’ Varsity Soccer again at GSB with Coach DeFalco and Golden,” said Coach Bednarsky. “This is a tremendous group of girls, and I am so excited to see what they can do this year.”

The roster is rounded out by a strong group of underclassmen led by Forwards Dana Lotito and Meredith Klosek, Midfielders Ava Hearn, Sophia Criscola, and CeCe Criscola, and Defenders Jessica Sconda and Karlita Cadena. The team will also rely on contributions from Sophomores Josephine Adebambo and Addison Rodriguez, as well as Freshmen Aliza Riaz and Hanna Lee.

Lotito will look to build off her dazzling sophomore season success in which she led the team with 16 goals, placing 5th among individual goal scorers in the Skyland Conference.

The team kicks off their 2022-23 season on September 8 with a home match against divisional rival Somerville High School. Be sure to check out the full season schedule on the GSB website!
