On Saturday, October 30, 2023, the sun emerged just in time to set the stage for a day filled with celebration, school spirit, and an abundance of fun activities at Gill St. Bernard's School's annual Homecoming/Family Day. The entire GSB community came together to make this day one for the books.
One of the highlights of the day was undoubtedly the enthusiastic support for our fall athletes. Spectators filled the stands, cheering on our teams with unwavering school pride. As Director of Athletics Jenn Noon expressed, "Homecoming and Family Day weekend was amazing, and it was great seeing the 'love' so many families have for Gill." For a complete list of games and results, please see the Athletics Update in this Friday’s newsletter.
Families enjoyed a wide range of engaging activities, from pumpkin patch crafts to an inflatable obstacle course, and even a chance to pet the adorable goats from Home Winds Farm. The Upper School booths were a hit, offering everything from face painting to the ever-popular dunk tank.
Event Co-Chairs Amy Collins, Marcella Criscola, Shelby Godfrey, and Sharon Macak brought boundless energy and enthusiasm to the event. In addition to the behind-the-scenes planning and coordination, they personally delivered GSB blue noise makers to cheering crowds and organized fun relays for students, complete with prizes and plenty of laughter.
The day was made even more special with the melodic talents of the Middle School and Upper School choirs, coordinated by faculty members Amy Southerland and Jack Williams III. Their performances entertained all guests and added a harmonious touch to the festivities.
For those looking to show off their GSB pride, the Boosters had a selection of GSB swag available for purchase throughout the day. Additionally, the Parents’ Association offered pie samples as part of their annual fall pie fundraiser, which is in full swing for the upcoming holiday season. You can place your online order today.
Director of Development Meredith Marks shared her enthusiasm for the event, stating, "Homecoming/Family Day is one of my favorite days on campus as we witness the entire GSB community coming together to celebrate our student-athletes, spend the day together, and show off this amazing school! We are so thankful to offer this fun-filled day for families and are grateful to our PA and Booster Club volunteers who engage so many in a full day of programming. This year, we were able to offer something new with Kimchi Smoke BBQ Catering providing a delicious lunch. This lunch was made possible through the generous support of the Matthews Family (P '16, '17, '24), who wished all GSB families a wonderful experience and thanked the community for making their family's 23 years here so special."
Homecoming/Family Day at Gill St. Bernard's School was indeed a day to remember. It showcased the strong sense of community, school spirit, and the collective effort that makes GSB a truly exceptional place. As the sun set on this beautiful day, the memories of laughter, cheering, and togetherness lingered, serving as a testament to the enduring bonds that unite the GSB community.
