The Gill St. Bernard's Boys Tennis Program continues to grow with 22 athletes entering the 2023 season across the varsity and JV level.
Coming off a 10-5 record from last season, Head Coach Chris Walsh believes the team is ready to take the next step. This year’s Knights will be led by co-captains Akshay Patel ’23 and Jack Dahler ’24, each coming off highly successful seasons. Patel will continue his run at First Doubles after posting an 8-5 record with partner Matthew Segal last season. Dahler returns as Gill’s First Single player after an impressive sophomore season in which he earned 10 victories and a trip to the Non-Public B semifinals.
Patel and Dahler are joined by several returning varsity letterwinners that includes seniors Travis Xue and Tyler Tellalian as well as juniors Bennet Lavoie, Drew Pereira, and Matthew Segal. Xue enjoyed a great junior season at 2nd Singles while Tellalian competes for an expanded role this season. Lavoie, Segal, and Pereira will continue to gain valuable experience at Doubles.
Additional key members of the program include first-year seniors Peter Horton and Mario Castro-Sanchez; juniors Lex Webber, Peter Frantz-Pendell, and Liam Seeley; sophomores Justin Lee, Arjun Rao, Deshan Kawatra, Jayden Christensen, James O’Brien, and Nathaniel Pollard; and freshmen Rohan Norden, Neil Procaccino, and Davis Herr.
"The key to this season will be our players becoming more consistent every day,” said Coach Walsh. Our theme is ‘hit one more shot than your opponent’. With proper preparation, this team will be at peak performance to compete for a conference title at the end of the year.”
Coach Walsh is joined by second-year assistant coach Don Callahan.
