GSB Boys’ Lacrosse Finishes Season 10-6, Earns Six All-League Nominations

The GSB Boys’ Lacrosse team ended their 2021-22 season with much to be proud of, including a record six All-League nominations.

Entering the year as one of the top teams in the area, the Knights went on a tear to begin the season, winning seven of their first eight matches while limiting opponents to a mere 6.25 goals per game during the span. The defensive dominance was in large part due to stellar play by Gill’s senior captains, defenseman Connor Albertson and goalie Ellis Wilson.

Albertson, who will continue his career at Air Force, led the team with 7.3 ground balls per game to earn 2nd Team Skyland All League Honors. Wilson, committed to Hobart, recorded a 69% save percentage this season for 1st Team All League. He finishes his storied career as Gill’s all-time saves leader with 499.

Head Coach Byron Collins credits the team’s success to senior leadership.

“Connor and Ellis are the first two players to go to the D1 level in program history,” commented Coach Collins. “This senior class were exceptional leaders for this team. This is the second straight season we’ve finished with double digit wins. That’s the first time in program history.”

Junior and Holy Cross-commit Will Deo (1st Team All League) served as the Knights’ offensive catalyst, tallying 64 points on 41 goals and 23 assists while joining the 100-point club for his career. Other major contributors to the team’s success included freshman Max Voigt (38 goals, 15 assists, 2nd Team All League Honors), senior Alex Sepe (16 goals, 9 assists, All League Honorable Mention), senior Grayson Moore (14 goals, 10 assists), and sophomore Michael Scarpati (46 ground balls, 2nd Team All League).

Though the Knights battled adversity through mid-season injuries, their early season dominance earned them the #7 seed in a stacked Somerset County Tournament as well as the #1 seed in the NJSIAA Non-Public B State Tournament. While their playoff run ended earlier than they had wanted, the team posted a 10-6 record coupled with their first-ever County Tournament win.
