GSB Boys' Lacrosse captured its first Prep B Championship in program history with a commanding 11-3 win over Rutgers Prep on May 20, 2024.
The victory marks the second consecutive championship season for the Byron Collins-led squad after winning the Non-Public B Championship in 2023. This time, the team hoisted the trophy in front of a packed home crowd on a beatiful May afternoon. The defending state champs never trailed in the game, using ball security and a stout defensive effort to control the pace of play. After going up 3-1 at halftime, the Knights came out on fire in the second half, scoring five unanswered goals to balloon their lead 8-1 going into the fourth period.
Junior Goalkeeper Colin Anderson, who is verbally comitted to the University of Vermont, was outstanding between the pipes limiting his opponents to a mere three goals over 48 minutes. Freshman Faceoff Man Braden Hammond was nearly unstoppable at the X position, winning almost every faceoff of the day.
The Knights were powered offensively by Junior Brendan Schwalb. Fresh off recording his 100th goal of his Gill career, Schwalb netted three goals to lead the team in scoring. Senior Corbin Migliaccio notched two goals for his fifth multi-score game of the season while Senior Michael Scarpati, Juniors Noah Blinkoff and Zach Blinkoff, Sophomore Griffin O'Sullivan, and Freshmen Johnny Cranga and Danta Lam each contributed a goal, respectively.
Looking ahead, the Knights (11-4) close out their regular season schedule this week before beginning their State tournament play.
