GSB Announces New Director of Alumni Relations Margery Schiesswohl P ’17

By Associate Director of Marketing and Communications Kathleen Bartlett

GSB is thrilled to announce that longtime employee, Margery Schiesswohl P ’17, will be taking on the role of Director of Alumni Relations beginning July 1, 2025.

In her three decades associated with Gill St. Bernard’s School, Schiesswohl has been involved in a wide range of activities including musical choreographer, classroom teacher for theater electives and Ninth Grade Seminar, student advisor, Ninth Grade Dean, Peer Group co-coordinator, Spring Unit coordinator, cheerleading coach, and athletics “super fan”—routing on ALL our athletes from the sidelines. She also holds the esteemed position of past parent to GSB Alum Kelly Schiesswohl ’17.

With all of these roles on her resume, the real question is – how did you first meet Mrs. Schiesswohl? Was it on the stage, on the athletic sidelines, in the classroom, or on a Spring Unit? Perhaps it was when she was coaching Mock Trial, chaperoning a dance or prom, getting dunked in the Family Day dunk tank in 2016, or working with the Peer Leader program?

Regardless of where your connection with Schiesswohl began, in her new role, she is looking to create meaningful connections between all the GSB alumni (whether she had you in class or not!) and the current community.

“My big picture goals are to increase alumni engagement and communication, to reinvigorate the alumni council and its role with the school, and to share and celebrate the rich 125-year history of the school,” Schiesswohl shared. “I will be organizing alumni events and opportunities to connect, and I can’t wait to see you and to hear from you!”

Schiesswohl first arrived on campus in 1992, choreographing the GSB Players musical under the direction of Paul Canada. She continued, with a few exceptions, to choreograph the musical productions under the direction of Canada for the next thirty years. In 2008, Schiesswohl moved into the classroom, teaching theater electives such as Acting 1, Acting 2, Movement, and Directing—and even starting the One Act Play Festival.

When a faculty member unexpectedly had to go out on medical leave in 2010, she jumped in mid-semester to teach the public speaking unit of Ninth Grade Seminar. She ultimately took over the coordination of the Seminar class and continued to teach different segments—in particular the history section—for the next 15 years. In 2014, she added Student Advisor to her responsibilities, and in 2015, she joined the Office of Student Life as First Year Dean. In 2019, she became a Unit Coordinator for GSB’s signature Spring Unit program, and she is in her fourth season as Head Varsity Cheerleading Coach. She also helps advise the Peer Leader program.

With connections to thirty-plus years of GSB graduates and to so many different facets of the school, Schiesswohl will undoubtedly make an immediate, positive impact to the alumni community in her role as Director of Alumni Relations. Please join us in welcoming Margery to her newest role at Gill St. Bernard’s School and be sure to visit her at our next alumni event!
