GSB Alum Nicole Johnson '18 Earns All-American Honors at NCAA Nationals

GSB alum Nicole Johnson ’18 faced off against the nation’s top runners in the 2022 NCAA DIII National Indoor Track Championships last Friday. Nicole, who earned All-American Honors, joined her Middlebury College teammates to place 4th in the Distance Medley Relay in which she ran the 800-meter leg.

“I love competing for Middlebury and this was a particularly special competition because I was able to not only run for my school, but for my teammates,” commented Nicole.

“This sport is all about improving personally, which I was able to do by running a season best split of 2:13:01, good for the second fastest 800 leg of the competition. Running a relay is more than that, though. It’s about running fast collectively and because of each other instead of running fast in opposition to others individually. The stakes are always higher at NCAA competitions and the times are always faster, but it is awesome to see the talent in the Division deepen and to be a part of that elite group.”

This season, The former Knight standout achieved All-Region Honors in the 800-meter and Distance Medley Relay, while also earning All New England with top three finishes in the 800-meter, Distance Medley Relay, and 4x800-meter Relay. Nicole also qualified for Nationals in the 800-meter, but her team decided to focus their efforts on the relay event.

While Middlebury did not compete in the 2021 Indoor season due to COVID-19, Nicole earned All-American honors in the 2020 Indoor track season and also qualified for the 2021 NCAA Cross Country and Outdoor Track Championships this past fall.
