Girls' Volleyball Takes to the Court

By Alice Roche Cody

Due to the pandemic, the girls' volleyball season shifted from fall to spring, with the home opener scheduled March 16 against Bound Brook. GSB welcomes Christina Temnycky as the new head coach to lead the Knights.

"I am excited to join GSB athletics, and I'm glad the season is finally here," said Coach Temnycky. "We have a great and talented group of girls, and we can't wait to see what the season will bring."

Even in the first week, Coach Temnycky reported that her squad already made great progress. "It's clear that they are a hard-working group and want to become better volleyball players," she said. "We have some talented beginners on our team this year. They've only played volleyball for about a week, but you wouldn't be able to tell that they just started playing the sport."

Returning stand-outs include Erin Barno '21, Maya Coleman '22, Madison Frantz Pendell '22, Jessica Jose-Navarrete '22, and Maddie Buynak '23.

And even though the season will be different to previous ones due to COVID-19 safeguards, the team remains focused. "The girls are determined to make this a great season," said Coach Temnycky. "We are taking the appropriate protocols stated by the State to stay as safe as possible, while still having a chance to enjoy the sport. We all want to be able to complete the whole season as an entire team."

Go, Knights!
