The GSB Volleyball program is ready to take the next step.
The team, led by Head Coach Christina Temnycky (3rd season) and Emily Caspersen (3rd season), returns twenty players after competing in its first full varsity schedule last season. Temnycky believes the experience that the team gained last season, along with 15 new players vying for playing time, will pay big dividends.
“Now that we have our first varsity season under our belts, we are ready to show the league what we can do,” commented Coach Temnycky. “We are getting stronger every day and are committed to getting into the state tournament this season. Both the Varsity and JV are excited to play in their games and put their best foot forward.”
With several starters graduating, including team captains Madison Frantz Pendell, Maya Coleman, and Jessica Jose-Navarrete, the team will rely on leadership from seniors Charlotte Aunger, Maddie Buynak, Pia Orozco Suarez, and Lily Vorhees . Other key starters returning for the Knights include Kate Byrne at Libero, Liliana Fava at Outside Hitter, and Zoe Lichtenberg at Setter. The core group will look to guide the young squad as they take on tougher competition in the Skyland Conference.
“Although we are a young team, the girls are very determined and working hard to be the best they can be,” said Coach Temnycky. “Last year we launched our middle school volleyball program, and it is great to see so many of those girls come join the high school team.”
“The team is very welcoming and wants to have fun while keeping competitiveness as a priority. The girls are so supportive of each other and love helping one another improve.”
The team kicks off their 2022-23 season on September 8 with an away game against Mount St. Mary Academy. Be sure to check out the full season schedule on the GSB website!
