Gill St. Bernard’s Lower School Celebrates Read Across America Week

From March 3–7, Gill St. Bernard’s Lower School students embraced the joy of reading with a weeklong celebration of books, stories, and creativity! Each day featured a fun theme, encouraging students to dress up and explore different genres.

The week kicked off with Wild About Reading on Monday, as students donned animal prints and read stories about creatures big and small. Tuesday’s Team Up for Reading had everyone sporting their favorite jerseys while enjoying books about sports and famous athletes—including a special Reading Buddies activity that paired older and younger students together.

Wednesday honored International Women’s Day, with students wearing purple and green while reading about trailblazing women. On Thursday, the school was filled with Super Readers! as students dressed as superheroes and colored their own Super Reader bookmarks.

The celebration concluded on Friday with Stargazing and Stories, where students wore comfy clothes and read under the stars.

Throughout the week, guest readers visited classrooms to share their love of books. Friday’s finale saw two special guests: Head of School Sid Rowell reading to Second Grade and Officer Pat sharing a story with Third Grade—capping off an exciting week.

Read Across America Week was a fantastic way to foster a love of reading, spark imaginations, and bring the community together through books!
