Head Fencing Coach Stephen Olson is excited to welcome Cole Degeorges, an accomplished fencer and New Jersey native, as the team's new sabre coach.
"I'm looking forward to working with Cole – he loves fencing, he has coaching experience, and he has been part of the sport a long time," said Coach Olson.
Coaching at the high school level will be a natural fit for Cole. "Some of my fondest memories of fencing are from high school, and I remember how formative those years were in my development as a fencer," he said. "I am very excited to teach the GSB team everything about fencing that I have learned since then."
Cole picked up his first sabre at age 10 and later went on to qualify for numerous USFA national championships and Junior Olympic events. At Watchung Hills Regional High School, he and his squad captured first place in New Jersey Interscholastic Fencing Association's Cetrulo & Santelli tournament. A Division 1 competitor for New Jersey Institute of Technology's men's fencing team, he served as a sabre squad starer and captain for three years. As a Highlander, he competed in the NCAA regionals and won first place for the men's sabre quad in the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association. Since graduating from NJIT's Albert Dorman Honors College, he has worked in software development. An Eagle Scout, Cole also serves as head coach for Kids Can Fence in Stirling.
