Boys Lacrosse Wrap-Up: A Historic Season of Firsts

The 2025 Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse season will become one of the most remarkable in Gill St. Bernard’s program history. Led by Varsity Head Coach Byron Collins P ’23, the Knights finished with a stellar 14-7 record and captured the Skyland Conference Raritan Division league title for the second year. As of the season's conclusion, the team is ranked fifth in the state—an impressive feat that reflects the program's tremendous growth.

Record-Breaking Milestones

This season was filled with record-breaking performances that set new standards for future Knights to chase:

  • Max Voigt ’25 became the all-time leader in both career points and career goals.
  • Brendan Schwalb ’25 earned the title of all-time assist leader.
  • The program had a record 12 All-League selections, with all eight seniors receiving honors for the first time in school history.
  • A program-best six players were named to the All-Non-Public Team, which includes both Non-Public A and B schools. Two were selected to the First Team and four to the Second Team.
  • Voigt was chosen as the program's first-ever New Jersey All-American and honored as an Academic All-American.
  • Noah Blinkoff ’25 advanced to the final 40 in the All-American selection process—only the third player in program history to reach that level.

A record five players will go on to play college lacrosse next year:

  • Colin Anderson (University of Vermont)
  • Noah Blinkoff (Lafayette College)
  • Zach Blinkoff (Rollins College)
  • Robert Herrington (Hofstra University)
  • Max Voigt (Dartmouth College)

A Senior Class That Changed the Game

"This was a very special senior class," said Coach Collins. “They're leaving behind a legacy that may never be matched."

Over the course of their high school careers, this group of seniors earned:

  • Two state championships
  • One county championship
  • One Prep B championship
  • The school's first-ever rankings in the top 20, top 10, and top 5 in New Jersey
  • The first national schedule, competing against teams from outside of New Jersey

When asked about the most memorable moment from the year, Coach Collins reflected:

"There were so many firsts—teams we had never beaten, boxes we had never checked. Personally, it was my first season without my wife, and before taking the job, I wondered if we'd ever win a county title. To see our team accomplish that and rise into the state's top five is something I'll never forget. Watching them do it together made it all the more special."

Leadership That Defined a Culture

Coach Collins praised his senior captains and the entire senior class for their unwavering commitment saying, "It came down to individual commitment to group success. This group won the offseason—something that takes buy-in year-round. Every game, someone new stepped up. That defines greatness—not just in captains, but in the collective."

With back-to-back graduating classes of eight players each, next year will usher in a new era for the Knights. But the foundation has been laid.

"Unlike other programs—we develop our players through high school,” said Coach Collins. “The lessons our returners have learned will be crucial. Winning the offseason will once again dictate how far we can go. The challenge is big, but so is the opportunity."
