Blue in the Face and the Joe Show Combine for an Electric Evening

Upper school students shined in a combined Blue in the Face/Joe Show on Tuesday, April 26, in GSB’s Performing Arts and Community Center Matthews Theater.

Blue in the Face is a newer musical favorite at Gill, having been created just over four years ago. The group is described as a “vocal band” that mixes elements of a cappella singing with the sounds of an indie folk-rock band. The multi-talented singers also play instruments and accompany themselves throughout the performance.

The Joe Show, GSB’s student-led talent show, featured entertaining acts that showcased classical pieces to Broadway selections. The repertoire included a particularly impressive piano performance of Chopin by James Schadt ‘23.

The evening was led under the guidance of Upper School Music Director David Southerland. Speaking proudly after the event, Southerland said, “It was a delight to see so many talented students performing. They were all remarkable!”

“This year’s Blue in the Face group was particularly close-knit and special,” he continued. “I’m going to miss the seniors when they graduate!”
