  • Who is asked to donate?

Everyone in the Gill St. Bernard’s school community is asked to give – trustees, parents, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, senior students as well as faculty and staff. Last year, 100% of the members of the Board of Trustees gave, 46% of current parents, 70% of faculty and staff and 10% of alumni.
  • How can I make my tax-deductible gift?

There are many ways to make a gift to the school. To review your options please learn more about our ways to give and, of course, contact anyone in the Development office at any time to get more information.
  • Can I designate my gift to a specific area?

Yes, you may designate your gift to a specific area of the school, provided a need exists there. Please call Jim Diverio at 908-234-1611, ext. 210 to discuss your interest and the school will be as flexible as possible. An additional undesignated gift to the GSB Annual Fund will help GSB to immediately provide the resources needed for teachers and students.
  • Is my contribution tax-deductible?

Yes, Gill St. Bernard's School is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and every gift is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Please see your tax advisor for more detailed information.
  • When should I contribute?

Gifts are accepted year round and do not need to be made at any particular time. The school’s fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30. For tax purposes, gifts made on or before December 31 are eligible to be claimed for a tax deduction when filing for that same year.
  • Is my participation important?

Absolutely! Participation is key to a successful year. Every gift is valued and vital. Your contribution makes a strong statement of support and may lead to gifts from other individuals, foundations or corporations.

  • Do you participate in company matching gift programs?

Many employers match charitable contributions by their employees. Please contact your Human Resources office for this information as they would need to provide you with the information and/or forms necessary to have your gift matched. You may also visit http://www1.matchinggifts.com/gsbschool/ to see if your employer or your spouse’s employer is on the list of published matching gift companies.
  • What's that giving website again?

You may give now or go to www.gsbschool.org/gift to make a contribution today.
  • What's the difference between a pledge and a gift?

When a donor knows now they would like to make a gift to the school but would like to send the gift in at a later date rather than making an outright gift now, they have the option to make a pledge to the school. In doing so, they commit to sending a gift of a specific amount on a specific date and the school will record this and follow up with a reminder when you indicated you would send in the gift.
  • Are international donations accepted?

Yes. Gill St. Bernard’s School can accept international donations. Please send a check to GSB Development, ATTN: Gwen Paxon, P.O. Box 604, Gladstone, NJ 07934 or give now with your credit or debit card.
  • Why are unrestricted gifts important?

Unrestricted gifts provide GSB with the greatest amount of financial flexibility, in turn allowing the school to fund its most pressing needs. Tuition only covers 90% of the true cost of a GSB education. Annual Fund support helps bridge the gap, allowing our students to excel.
  • What are endowment gifts?

Endowment gifts are unique in that rather than simply being used to fund something in the present, they are instead invested for future growth and development. Like a savings account, funds in an Endowment continue to grow and the interest on these funds are then used to support the school while the principal remains intact. Endowment gifts help to ensure the financial stability of the school for years to come and are a wonderful addition to an unrestricted gift. Call Jim Diverio, 908-234-1611, ext. 210, to learn more about making an endowed gift.
  • What is the GSB Annual Fund?

The GSB Annual Fund is Gill St. Bernard’s largest annual charitable giving campaign that runs in conjunction with the school’s fiscal year of July 1 to June 30. Tax-deductible donations go directly into the operating budget and provide immediate benefit for students and teachers. Contributions to the Annual Fund support all areas of our school: academic programs, athletics, arts and other areas supporting our students from preschool through grade 12. This funding also allows faculty and staff to benefit from professional development opportunities that arise throughout the year. Check out this video describing the annual fund.
  • Why do we have an Annual Fund?

Like most independent schools and colleges, Gill St. Bernard’s uses a financial model that relies upon tuition revenues plus charitable contributions to fund its annual operating budget.
  • How is the Annual Fund different from other fundraisers?

The GSB Annual Fund is different because it is the school’s largest and most important annual fundraising effort, and it is the only fundraiser built into the school’s annual budget. These gifts do not sit in an account to be used for students ten years from now. Every gift to the Annual Fund has an immediate impact because it is used within that fiscal year. GSB has balanced its budget since the turn of the century with the help of Annual Fund giving.
  • Why doesn't tuition cover the total cost of each student?

The GSB Annual Fund helps moderate tuition levels to ensure that GSB continues to receive as many outstanding students as possible, providing a very healthy environment for peer development. It also allows donors to help fund school operations on a tax-advantaged basis.
  • How can I support GSB other than by making a monetary donation?

While monetary gifts to the school are crucial, GSB would not be able to do all it does without the many wonderful volunteers helping out every day on and off campus. Please visit our volunteer page to see all our current opportunities. You can also contact Jen Doherty (parents) or Chanelle Walker (alumni) to learn more about how you can get involved.
Gill St. Bernard’s is a private, coeducational day school for students age three through grade 12, located in suburban New Jersey. Each of the three school divisions provides a vigorous, meaningful and age-appropriate curriculum, and all students benefit from the environmental learning opportunities that exist on our 208-acre campus.
