Among the new faces on campus this year are nine members of the faculty and staff. Please join the school in welcoming them to Gill St. Bernard's as we officially begin the 2017-18 academic year.
In the Middle School, Montana Vasquez-Grinnell will be teaching STREAMS in grade five, science in grade six and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) for grade eight. She comes to Gill from the Audubon School (PS 128M) in New York, where she served as lead teacher for the fifth-grade and was instrumental in implementing / developing STREAM programs.
Also in the Middle School, Wendy Hanks will be familiar to many on campus. She is a GSB parent and she helped out as a substitute teacher last year. This fall, she will be teaching art in the Middle School (part-time) while Amy Newman is on maternity leave.
The Upper School welcomes two new science teachers: Patrick Brennan and Steven Rossi. Brennan brings a range of teaching experience to Gill, including Montclair State University and New Jersey public schools. Prior to Gill, Rossi taught AP and honors biology at Bishop George Ahr in Edison, New Jersey. He is also an experienced baseball and softball coach and hopes to work with the Knights this spring.
Christine Hinkley will be teaching math in the Upper School. National Board certified in mathematics, she joins Gill from a charter school in California, where she chaired the math department and coached mathletes.
Ian Prevost will be teaching computer science in the Upper School. He was a teaching assistant at Princeton University in C++ programming and has lots of experience debugging code. In addition, Prevost has also taught chess at numerous schools in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and looks forward to working with Gill's chess team.
Nicholas Pollack will be teaching digital photography (part-time) in the Upper School while Amy Newman is on maternity leave. A professional photographer, Pollack will also be taking pictures around campus to help complement the new website.
Also new to the Upper School is Tracey Mueller, assistant librarian. She comes to Gill from the Williams School in Norfolk, Virginia, where she taught technology and science. She says she loves Gill's culture of reading and is excited to be able to contribute to it.
The athletics department welcomes Stephen Bienko as the school's Director of Track Operations, a new position created in response to the growing success of our cross-country and track and field programs. In addition to his role in athletics, he will also be developing an internship program in conjunction with Upper School Unit. A former Division I decathlete and football running back, Bienko brings a wealth of experience as an athlete, coach, trainer and sports manager to his role at Gill.
