Security and safety continue to be very much on our minds here at Gill. The presence of several dedicated adults for this purpose (all former police officers) as well as various drills, policies and procedures are a testament to this concern.
We also want to insure the security of the campus, its buildings and various facilities. Sadly, we have fallen victim to a few incidents of vandalism in the past several years.
In addition, from time to time, current students and alumni have come on the campus after hours and on weekends seeking to use the athletic fields, gym or fitness center. While I understand the desire, it is not appropriate for either students or alums to be on the campus when it is closed. The liability issues alone are enough to require this policy. Further, because of the past incidents which involved vandalism, the Chester Township and Peapack-Gladstone Police Departments routinely patrol the campus.
It is difficult to strike the proper balance on this issue as it is always our desire to maintain an open and welcoming campus. However, I hope all of our families – past, present and future – understand the concerns which have led to these policies.
Gill St. Bernard’s is a private, coeducational day school for students age three through grade 12, located in suburban New Jersey. Each of the three school divisions provides a vigorous, meaningful and age-appropriate curriculum, and all students benefit from the environmental learning opportunities that exist on our 208-acre campus.
