The Middle School fencing team closed out its season with a tournament win in the Middle School Invitational this week, held at the Medeo Fencing Club in Bridgewater. Sabre and epee teams swept all three of their rounds, and the foil squad took two of three. In addition to Gill, fencers from Far Hills Country Day School, Newark Academy and Pingry competed at the meet.
Reflecting on the tournament win and on the season, Coach Joe Zanko said, "I'm extremely proud of all our fencers who participated in the event and just as proud of those who could not make it but put in the work during class to help their classmates drill and prepare. I had to coach very little on the day of the tournament, and this is a testament to how enthusiastically the fencers prepared themselves and how maturely they took on the responsibility of keeping score and stepping in to coach their teammates."
Stay tuned for more end-of-season wraps from our varsity, JV and Middle School teams.
