GSB Middle School STREAMS Students Raise Awareness in Fighting Hunger
According to Feeding America's Map the Meal study, over 860,000 people in New Jersey struggle with hunger, and 30% of them are children. Through a heartfelt service-learning project, GSB Middle School STREAMS students designed, created, and donated a beautiful array of bowls for the Second Annual Empty Bowls Event, on March 22, 2020, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Somerset.
Empty Bowls is a grassroots effort to raise money and awareness in the fight to end hunger. A simple meal is donated, prepared, and served by local entrepreneurs. The handmade pottery bowls are personalized by artists, and guests choose them as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The event is open to the public, and all proceeds go directly to the Franklin Food Bank.
Gill St. Bernard’s is a private, coeducational day school for students age three through grade 12, located in suburban New Jersey. Each of the three school divisions provides a rigorous, meaningful, and age-appropriate curriculum, and all students benefit from the environmental learning opportunities that exist on our 208-acre campus.
