US Students Visit Pharmaceutical Company

GSB Upper School students were provided an incredible opportunity of visiting a local pharmaceutical company, Nevakar, on Friday, October 11.
The trip was made possible thanks to GSB parent and Nevakar employee, Reema Puri P ’21. The 14 students were greeted by the company in the main conference room, and the day began with presentations from Puri, CFO Marshall Woodworth, and other employees of the company. Each professional provided valuable insight on what a pharmaceutical company such as Nevakar does, the process it takes to get a product approved by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration), and what steps to take to pursue a career in this field.
After the presentations, students were given the rare opportunity of being able to tour the lab (of course, only after they put on their lab coats and safety goggles!). Here, scientists work on current chemical components and investigate new ways in which they can be utilized into more effective drugs. As of now, Nevakar is working on 16 products that they hope will eventually be approved by the FDA.
The day concluded with a pizza lunch between the students and employees, and the casual setting allowed the students to ask any further questions they had about what they had learned and seen that morning.
Thank you again to Reema, Janet Narine, and the entire Nevakar family for being so welcoming and accommodating to our students on their visit!
