The baseball squad was able to pull out a late-inning, 4-3 win over 11th-seeded Morris Catholic in the quarterfinals of the Non-Public B, North sectional championships on Friday, May 24.
Eddie McCarthy ’20 drove in the eventual game-winning run with an RBI single in the sixth. Mike Giammarino ’19 recorded an RBI as well and Michael Taylor ’20, Matt Kalinak ‘21, Jake Sempervive ‘21, and Christian Mote ’22 all scored runs for GSB.
Giammarino got the start in the playoff match and, despite giving up ten hits, was able to hold the Crusaders to only two runs over 5 and 2/3 innings pitched. Joe Skapinetz '21 came in relief and pitched 1 and 1/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts to earn the win.
The third-seeded Knights will travel to second-seeded Hudson Catholic later today for the sectional semifinals.
