Meet Donna Orr from the Admission Office

As the first person you meet when you walk into Nardelli, the main administrative building on campus, is Donna Orr. She has one of the most visible jobs on campus. She is also the contact person for any for families interested in learning more about the school or setting up a campus visit. Because her chief role is in the admission office, however, she may be unfamiliar to some of our current parents and students. With that in mind, we took a few minutes to talk with Orr, who joined the school this past fall.
1.)   What made you want to join the Gill team?

My sister is a teacher at a local independent school, and from her sharing her experiences about how much she loves working there and the whole sense of community with independent schools always made it seem like an appealing option. When I became aware of this position at Gill I thought it could be a great experience for me and I felt I could use my work background to help the enrollment here and help prospective families.
2.)   What have you enjoyed most so far about working here?

I’m really impressed by the community at Gill. When applicants come to campus, they see the way our students are, and I see how impressed they are with the school so that is really touching to me. I was also so impressed with the open house on October 21; the students leading the tours were incredible and so friendly. They really displayed the self-confidence that they gain from being here.
3.)   What goals do you have for the upcoming year?

Working to streamline how we follow up with interested families. There are so many benefits to coming here, so we really want to help build that sequence so it is easier for families to get the information. This can also help admissions have a better understanding of what people are looking for.
4.)   What advice would you give to families that are looking to come to Gill?

Really take the time to explore all of the opportunities that are here for your student and get to know the strong sense of community that exists here. Just know that your child would have the best opportunity here moving forward, not just in regard to grades, but how they develop as an adult.

Gill St. Bernard’s is a private, coeducational day school for students age three through grade 12, located in suburban New Jersey. Each of the three school divisions provides a rigorous, meaningful and age-appropriate curriculum, and all students benefit from the environmental learning opportunities that exist on our 208-acre campus.
