“Children are a special gift in our lives. I feel blessed to have the job that I do. I cherish every moment I am with my students, and I cherish all they give me in return.”
Kathleen Conte joined GSB's team because she felt the camaraderie among faculty members and recognized their dedication to the development of each individual student. Teaching Kindergarten is the perfect fit for this mom of four. The eldest of seven children, she has 27 nieces and nephews and two grandchildren, with one on the way!
"I was drawn to teach this age group – it's not a job to me. I do it because I love it. They are so loving at this age, and they enlighten me as much as I enlighten them. I enjoy seeing the knowledge the children have when they walk in my door in September and then how much more they know they leave in June. They are little sponges."
When teaching, Kathleen expects a lot from her students. "I encourage each child to be the best they can be!" She remains confident that all her pupils tell their parents how much she loves them. When interacting with her class, she keeps in mind this quote: To dream of the person you want to be, is to waste the person you are.
Teaching at GSB gives Kathleen the unique ability to watch her students grow over the years, as they leave the Lower School to start Middle School, and then graduate from Upper School. Her favorite Gill moment is the Early Childhood Nutcracker Performance. "The children are magical. When they are onstage, there is a special twinkle in the air and in their eyes. They work hard to do their best, and they never disappoint. I enjoy the moments we gather as a school community to celebrate special occasions."
