“I love that my students are kind and perpetually positive. You can tell that they truly care about each other and the community. Their creativity and growth-mindsets are also an inspiration to me, every single day.”
Working with children has always been invigorating for Julie, who started babysitting at 12 and then, at age 16, taught swim lessons and coached swim team.
Previously, she taught third grade and served as a curriculum specialist at Brookfield Academy in Wisconsin. Because she found the school’s values very similar to those of GSB, she feels right at home with Gill’s supportive and kind community.
Julie felt drawn to GSB’s emphasis on developing the whole child. “It has always been important for me to inspire lifelong learners, and GSB allows teachers to foster education in so many different facets of each child’s life.” To her, character education is a pivotal part of every child’s learning and should be championed. Her favorite motto is, Throw kindness like confetti!
At GSB, Julie’s students have an opportunity to explore their interests and passions in many different areas. “Our campus offers an amazing outdoor space for students to foster their growth. Special programs like STREAMS also add a unique opportunity for students to apply their learning to real life experiences.”
Even though Julie’s fourth graders grasp more complex novels, she still reads picture books to them. “I enjoy taking the time to ignite imaginations, reminisce over childhood, and revisit the invaluable lessons taught in picture books.”
Computer Buddies, where fourth grader leaders help PreK students with computer skills, remains Julie’s favorite activity. Time and again, she finds it heartwarming to see her students showcase their enthusiasm, kindness, and empathy.
