Patrick Hensley enters his third season as the head coach of the boys' and girls' tennis teams here at Gill St. Bernard’s. His lifelong success in the sport and passion for coaching has helped carry on the strong tennis tradition at GSB.
In his first season, Hensley led the girls’ team to a 14-2 record and the Skyland Conference Raritan Division title. The girls' squad also had nine members receive all-conference honors, six of them being named 1st team. To cap off the memorable season, Hensley was named the Skyland Conference Coach of the Year.
Last year, he helped lead the Knights to a top-15 ranking in the state and their first Prep B title since 2010.
He has also produced strong results on the boys’ side, guiding the Knights to consecutive Non-Public B State tournament appearances while four boys have earned all-conference honors.
“There’s a lot of talent on both sides,” says Hensley. “Being able to build up the program has been incredible. The kids remind me of when I was in high school, and I like helping the players reach their goals both on and off court.”
Prior to coaching at Gill, Hensley was a standout athlete in the sport. He was a regular starter for his Division II college, Francis Marion College, which was consistently ranked in the Top-10 in the nation. In high school, Hensley was a North Carolina runner-up state champion in 2011 and 2012.
Hensley also serves as Director of High Performance at the Chester Tennis Club and is a USPTA certified tennis professional.
