Students thrive in school and throughout their lives when they are supported and cared for. Throughout the year, Lower Schoolers strengthen bonds through class activities, community meetings, group projects, school traditions, and special events to build a deeper understanding of the world and a more joyful understanding of themselves.
Special Events
We are incredibly fortunate to have a strong, active, and caring community here at Gill St. Bernard's. Throughout the year, our Lower Schoolers will host and take part in exciting student life events for our families to enjoy while creating lasting memories. Many families will also choose to volunteer with our GSB Parents' Association to get more involved on campus.

Homecoming & Family Day is Gill St. Bernard's flagship fall event for families to enjoy a day on campus and get in the GSB Spirit! Each year, the full GSB community comes out in blue and white for a full slate of athletic games while they enjoy a delicous picnic lunch and series of great activities such as pumpkin patches, inflatable rides, relay races, dunk tanks, and more.

Bingo Night
The Parents' Association hosts annual events for the GSB community and the entire Lower School is invited to attend! In years past, the Parents' Association has hosted events like the ever-popular Bingo Night and Culture Night.
Halloween Parade
Halloween Parade
In the most spook-tacuar event of the year, GSB Lower School families are invited to campus to watch the annual GSB Costume Parade.
Music Concerts
Music Concerts
Lower Schoolers perform a diverse and heartwarming series of concerts to showcase their creativity and musical skills they've developed during the school year. Annual Lower School concerts include the Winter and Spring Concerts, Early Childhood Nutcracker Performance, and Spring Music Concert.

The GSB Library Team hosts annual Book Fairs during the school years for Lower Schoolers to browse exciting new collections in Evans Hall.
Piano Recitals
Piano Recitals
Lower School musicians grace the stage in GSB's Performing Arts & Community Center in our piano recital series. During the event, students will demonstrate the songs they've been practicing during the school year for families and friends. Works often include pieces by Faber, Beethoven, Mozart, and other famous composers.
Grandparents & Grand Friends Day
Grandparents & Special Friends Day
Grandparents & Grand Friends Day is a heartwarming opportunity for Lower Schoolers to share GSB with their loved ones. Students invite grandparents or special individuals in their life to campus to tour their classrooms, take part in school activities, see recent artwork and projects, and enjoy quality time with family.
Lower School Town Meetings
Lower School students gather for weekly town meetings on Wednesday mornings. Town meetings are opportunities to build community through announcements, celebrations, and teacher and student led presentations focused on the Virtue of the Month, Heritage Months, Character Education, and Service Learning. In addition, the Lower School regularly hosts guest presenters, author visits, and professional assemblies.
Social-Emotional Learning & Character Education
Our social-emotional, and character development program recognizes and celebrates GSB’s Core Values of courage, integrity, respect, compassion, and excellence in our students. Guided by the principles of Responsive Classroom®, faculty create a safe and welcoming classroom climate where students can feel open and empowered to develop their social and emotional skills. Through interactions with students in the Middle and Upper Schools, such as our Reading Buddies Program, Lower Schoolers learn how to connect with other members of our community.
