Gill St. Bernard’s has always been more than a collection of programs, courses, or accomplishments. At its best, it is an experience: a place where students are known deeply, challenged thoughtfully, and formed over time through relationships, challenge, trust, and care. This strategic framework, formally initiated in August 2026, emerges from a belief that what matters most in schools today is not simply what they offer, but how students experience their lives within them.
We are operating in a moment of profound change. The world our students are entering is more complex, interconnected, and demanding than at any point in recent memory.
Gill St. Bernard’s is uniquely positioned for this moment. Ours is a school where intellectual ambition and human connection are not competing priorities, but mutually reinforcing ones. We believe students are challenged more deeply because they are known well, and that relationships strengthen rigor rather than diminish it.
Through rigorous academics enriched by experiential learning, outdoor education, arts, athletics, and meaningful engagement beyond the classroom, students become capable, grounded, curious, and deeply engaged with the world around them. It is a place where excellence and humanity coexist—where students are both ambitious and well-adjusted, pursuing achievement with joy, empathy, integrity, and purpose.
That understanding helped crystallize an idea that now anchors this framework and our broader institutional identity:

Goal: GSB sustains the enrollment, financial strength, philanthropic support, and institutional capacity necessary to continually reinvest in people, program, and place.
Priority 3A. Growing a Thriving, Mission-Aligned Student Body
Enrollment reflects strong demand, mission alignment, and sustained family commitment to the GSB experience.
Priority 3B. Investing to Sustain Mission and Growth
GSB generates the philanthropic support and long-term financial capacity necessary to sustain mission, strengthen access, and advance strategic priorities.
Priority 3C. Optimizing Campus Spaces and Uses
Campus spaces and institutional resources actively support learning, belonging, innovation, sustainability, and community life.
Wave 1 Strategic Commitments
Implementation of Depth, Purpose, and Possibility will unfold in phases over the life of the framework. Wave 1, beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, focuses on foundational commitments that clarify and deepen the GSB experience, strengthen the systems and capacities that support it, and establish the conditions for the work that follows.

Strengthen the coherence and progression of the PS–12 student experience through meaningful connections across grades and divisions and increasingly distinctive learning opportunities.

Define and bring to life Wholeheartedly and Seriously Ambitious. Deeply Human. across the GSB experience, making these ideas increasingly visible in teaching, learning, relationships, leadership, and community life.
GSB Instructional Model & Professional Learning
Define and implement a distinctive GSB approach to teaching and learning characterized by high expectations, deep engagement, and relational rigor, with professional learning and growth intentionally aligned to that approach.
Portraits of a Graduate and Faculty & Staff
Define and intentionally develop the intellectual, ethical, relational, and human capacities of a GSB graduate—and the qualities and practices of the faculty and staff who make that experience possible.

Admissions, Enrollment Experience & Retention
Align admissions, enrollment, and retention around the distinctive GSB educational experience, creating a relational journey that advances student fit, family commitment, belonging, and long-term enrollment strength.
Strategic Funding & Campaign Readiness
Define and prioritize the investments required to advance GSB’s educational ambitions and build the philanthropic capacity to support access, people, program, campus, and long-term institutional strength.
Campus & Home Winds
Translate GSB’s priorities into a phased long-range campus plan, identifying and prioritizing the facilities needed to advance inquiry, applied and experiential learning, community life, and the distinctive potential of Home Winds Farm, and establishing the scope, feasibility, sequencing, and funding strategy for the highest-priority capital investments.
Looking Ahead
Wave 1 establishes the foundation for work that will continue to unfold over the life of the strategic framework. As that work progresses, future phases may open possibilities such as:
- A more expansive PS–12 continuum of inquiry and applied learning, building on STREAMS and creating increasingly sophisticated experiences in science, technology, research, engineering, arts, mathematics, and sustainability.
- New possibilities for interdisciplinary and advanced study, potentially including an Institute for Inquiry, Leadership & Applied Learning, and offerings such as AP Capstone.
- More pathways connecting learning with the wider world, through capstones, internships, apprenticeships, mentorships, fellowships, civic engagement, and university and community partnerships.
- Greater opportunities for students to pursue interests with depth and purpose, including potential signature academic pathways or concentrations.
- Expanded learning in entrepreneurship, business, and personal finance, connecting academic study with problem-solving, leadership, and real-world application.
