Application Process

College applications represent the end product of your college search. To the college, they also represent you. It is important that they are done thoroughly, neatly, accurately, and on time. Filling out the application is only a part of the process. Interviews are often part of the process, as is obtaining recommendations.

Recommendations

Recommendation requirements vary, but typically would include one from a guidance counselor and two from teachers. Early in the senior year students should begin asking teachers for recommendations. Ask those teachers whose classes you have demonstrated interest and competence. A thank you note to the teachers who write recommendations is appropriate.

Interviews

Although many schools do not require interviews, they can be helpful in your application. The best general advice is to relax, be friendly and look at people when you talk to them. For more information about the interview CLICK HERE.

The Application

The application usually consists of three key pieces: the form, to be filled out by the student; the essay, to be written as instructed by the form; the Secondary School Report, to be filled in by your college counselor.

Though colleges often offer paper and online application options, most students find that completing the application form online is most convenient and accurate.

The essay presents challenges for many students. For more details on writing essays CLICK HERE.
