Essays

Guidelines for writing the essay

1. Follow the instructions. Make sure you are answering the question asked.
2. Write well and error free. The essay is not only an opportunity for the college to learn about you but also to see how well you write. Have someone proof read it.
3. Be yourself. What is it that makes you different and special? How can you best communicate your uniqueness to the reader?
4. Humor. Use it only if it doesn't feel contrived, and in small doses.

Sample essay questions

1. Evaluate a significant experience or achievement that has special meaning to you.
2. Discuss some issue of personal, local, or national concern and its importance to you.
3. Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that importance.
4. (a) Describe your reading habits and your experience with books.(b) Choose some book that has been important in shaping your thoughts and discuss a single aspect of it that is of significance to you.
5. Please attach a photograph of something that has special meaning to you. Explain your choice.
