Volunteer Opportunities
ANNUAL FUND
consists of unrestricted charitable financial contributions to the school.  Tuition income does not cover the cost of operating any independent school and GSB counts on the additional gifts from parents, alumni, grandparents and friends to help support its programs.   The Annual Fund committee works with the school’s development office to contact parents throughout the year through phonathons and personal solicitations.

ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB is a fund and spirit raising organization to benefit our student-athletes.  Your support is welcome in the form of annually renewable membership and in various volunteer opportunities such as becoming a team parent in the Upper and Middle Schools, helping with concessions at Cox Lodge and in the Athletic Center, decorating for spirit days throughout the year, as well as at Homecoming, and helping during Lower School adopt-a-player events.  GO KNIGHTS!

AUCTION/DINNER DANCE is the school’s annual spring fundraising gala.  This event’s success has grown enormously and nets over $200,000 for the school.  The evening features:  live and silent auctions, dinner and dancing and a 50/50 cash raffle drawing.  Event date:   April 2009.

CARE NETWORK is a network of parents that offer meals and support to families who are going through an experience that causes such a need to arise.  Some of these might include the birth of a child, injury, illness or death of a family member.

DIRECTORIES is a new committee that will look to evaluate, enhance and most likely restructure the GSB school Calendar and Parents Telephone Directory.

FASHION SHOW is held in the fall off-campus and features a presentation of fall fashions, luxury raffle, theme baskets and refreshments. Event date:  November 4, 2009 at Meadow Wood Manor in Randolph, NJ

FRIENDS OF THE ARTS (FOA) celebrates, promotes and supports the richness and diversity of the school’s arts program.  GSB Friends of the Arts will support and enhance the core programs designed to instruct, educate and challenge the students in the fields of theater arts and visual arts in the lower, middle and upper school.  We wish to acknowledge the talent and resources in the program and will strive to make them available to the school community at large.

HOMECOMING/FAMILY DAY is held in the fall with family activities geared for students and families, picnic lunch and athletic events in the afternoon.  Event date:  September 26, 2009.

LIBRARY BOOK FAIR works closely with the school librarians organizing the annual book fair.  Volunteers work at the fair set-up/take-down and assist students during the event.  There are flexible volunteer opportunities.  Event date:  November 4-6, 2009.

PARENT ADMISSION NETWORK (PAN) works closely with the school’s admission office in communicating with prospective families about GSB’s program.  Our families are our best promoters and prospective parents are sometimes more comfortable posing questions to other parents than they are to school administrators. PAN representatives call prospective families and participate in the mentoring program which helps to support the school’s recruitment efforts.

PARENTS’ BREAKFAST organizes the fall Parents’ Association kick-off breakfast.  They are also responsible for the invitations and the GSB volunteer brochure.

PUBLICITY works closely with the development office to provide important information about the Parents’ Association’s activities in the monthly “GSB News” and our school’s website.  The Publicity Committee also creates promotional materials for the various events sponsored by the Parents’ Association.

ROOM PARENTS are organized by division directors with a chair for the Lower, Middle and Upper School.  At least one room parent is recruited for each class.  These volunteers help plan and organize class activities, Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day, and may assist other Parents’ Association committees with their efforts.  Room Parents are chosen prior to the beginning of the school year.

THEATER BOOSTERS supply support for the drama department productions.  Volunteers help with set construction, sewing costumes, and selling tickets and refreshments at performances.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR heads the volunteer committee that facilitates mailings for all the Parents’ Association committees.  Once a month members are asked to contribute their time for mailing various event invitations, flyers and notices.  Volunteer opportunities are flexible.

WRAPPING PAPER/GIFT MERCHANDISE sales drive begins in September and continues through December.  Quality wrapping paper, ribbon, decorative bags, chocolates, gifts and magazines are available to purchase through Cherrydale.  Fifty-five percent of total sales are returned to GSB.
