Middle Schoolers learn about phase change

On Monday Jan. 4th, Liberty Science Center educators demonstrated to grades 5-8 how and why things change from solid to liquid to gas. Using super-cold liquid nitrogen, a bar of tin, balloons, a teapot and other common household items along with student volunteers, this in-school field trip provided an opportunity for students to develop a better sense of the physical world around them.  Understanding how clouds form, how a liquid can boil at -232F and how a solid can freeze at room temperature were just a few of the "really cool" phase changes of matter.
