GSB announces new Primary Program
In September 2010, GSB will introduce a new program for children ages 3 to 4 years to add to the existing Pre-kindergarten of 4 and 5 year olds. The two sections, Primary 3 and Primary 4, will form the newly established GSB Primary Program. Children need to turn 3 by February in order to be considered for admission the following September.
The new program will stress a child-directed, interdisciplinary introduction to learning led by our creative and dynamic teachers. The daily schedule will include academic instruction, music, physical education, and supervised indoor and outdoor playtime. Weekly project-based units in art, cooking and drama, and visits to the school library will enrich the children’s overall experience.
Children will be encouraged to express their thoughts and feelings, to resolve conflicts, and to treat others respectfully. Each day there will be opportunities for developing character and confidence as teachers thoughtfully shape children’s experiences and interactions. Along with individual growth, Primary Program teachers will promote social skills and cooperation among our youngest students.
