Star Ledger on GSB girls soccer

Gill St. Bernard's lost its first two games of the season but never lost its confidence.
"We lost both games by only one goal," coach Jonna Mullane said. "Although they were losses, the girls came out of it without blinking an eye. They knew both games could have gone either way."
The Gladstone school rallied to win its next six games, including a 1-0 overtime victory over Manville in the first round of the Somerset County Tournament on Saturday.
Mullane said seniors Karli Alvino and Tansey True create an offensive force on the field together, dominating the midfield.
"She controls our offense with her contagious energy," Mullane said of Alvino. "She is playing hard 100 percent of the time and leads by example."
While the offense is run by upperclassmen, Gill St. Bernard's defense is led by freshman goalie Kailey Raymond, who has posted five shutouts this season.
