Fourth graders show how to help the world
Two of the fourth grade classes invited parents to Evans Hall to watch the final presentations of their C.H.O.W. public speaking projects. C.H.O.W. stands for Children Help Our World. This assignment allows the children to show not only their creativity, but also their compassion for others in the world who are not as fortunate as we are here at Gill St. Bernard’s School. For this project, each child chose one cause in the world that they felt needed more attention and then created a fictitious nonprofit charity to raise money or supplies for this cause. Their presentations included a poster detailing the cause and the small items they would sell to collect money to support their work. In addition to the posters and materials they created, each child made a five minutes presentation to get support for their cause. In conversations held after the presentations, the parents all agreed that this project once more reinforced the fact that children at Gill recognize that they are part of the larger world and, as such, have an obligation to try to help others.
